The English program is designed to develop student's insights into human nature and thought, as well as an appreciation of the written word as a mode of expression. It is meant to help prepare students for careers in business, law, education, public service and information services, among hundreds of other fields.

The English program is meant to challenge and empower students to engage in the living conversation of human consciousness and add their own voices to the ongoing dialogue that shapes the world in which we live, by thinking critically and writing articulately as part of a lifelong process of self-awareness and self-expression.

Upon graduation, English students will be able to demonstrate coherent historical knowledge of literature, analyze, interpret, evaluate and appreciate well-crafted literature, write clearly and persuasively, research, organize and communicate information effectively, help others with their writing, communicate effectively to a live audience, and use their writing skills to serve others in their communities.
