Briar Cliff Invests $5 Million into Catholic Education

March 25, 2025

(Sioux City, Iowa – March 25, 2025) 51Âþ» reaffirms the University’s dedication to Catholic education with a significant annual investment of $5 million through institutional and funded aid, including the Bishop Scholarship program, supported by the Diocese of Sioux City. This commitment underscores BCU’s mission to support students pursuing a faith-based education, ensuring accessibility and affordability for Catholic families.

In addition to the Bishop Scholarship, BCU offers the Catholic Connection Scholarship, which guarantees a minimum 60% tuition discount to eligible students, making a Catholic higher education more affordable and accessible.

“At Briar Cliff, we believe in the power of faith-driven education and the transformative impact it has on students’ lives,” said Dr. Matthew Draud, President of Briar Cliff. “This investment in scholarships ensures that Catholic students and families can pursue their academic and spiritual goals without financial barriers.”

Nearly 40% of students at the University have self-identified as Catholic. As a Franciscan institution rooted in a tradition of openness and inclusivity, 51Âþ» welcomes and supports students of all faith backgrounds.

This commitment to faith is enriched by a vibrant community of spiritual activities and organizations, including Campus Ministry, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Daughters program, and regular Mass services, providing opportunities for worship, fellowship, and personal growth.
